Basil Lime Gimlet

So good. I was so sad when Michael Schlow closed his amazing Italian restaurant, Via Matta, in downtown Boston. The pasta was to die for; I still dream about it. I used to always start my dinning there with one of these; they are really good, especially if you like basil.

  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 4 parts vodka
  • 1 fistful of fresh basil

Mix in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake extra to be sure that the basil gets mashed by the ice to release flavour. Serve in a cocktail glass with a basil leaf garnish.

How to make Simple Syrup

Using superfine sugar, you want to combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool before using.
