Regardless of how you plan to cook your rice, you should rinse it first. Rinsing removes the surface starch from the rice grains which can cause the rice to be gummy.
Instant Pot Instructions
Add 1 cup of rice and 1 cup water to the Instant Pot. Add ½ tsp of salt, stir and then [optional] add 1 TBL butter. Pressure cook on HIGH for 3 minutes and then let the rice depressurize naturally for 10 minutes before releasing the rest of the steam.
Stop top Instructions
Bring 2 cups of water to boil in a medium saucepan. Add ½ tsp of salt, stir and then [optional] add 1 TBL butter. When water has returned to boil, stir in 1 cup rice. When water starts to return to a light simmer, stir again, cover the pot and turn the heat down low. Keep the rice simmering slightly, careful to not let it boil over. Start checking after about 17 minutes to see if rice is tender and all the liquid is absorbed. If you are making more than 1 cup of rice, you will mostly likely need to cook it longer, up to 25 minutes. When the rice is cooked, turn off the heat and let it sit for another couple of minutes to finish absorbing any liquid. Take off the lid, fluff the rice with a fork.
note: for ½ cup of rice I let it simmer for 14 minutes
I purchased the Instant Pot Duo Plus from Amazon in early December 2020. With all the cooking I’m doing now, I was looking for ways to create yummy meals that didn’t require as much supervision so that I could chill more in the evenings. |
